Earthing chamber size selection

Choose an RCC earthing chamber size based on pit depth, working access, test link position, and how much room is needed for inspection and maintenance. The smallest chamber is not always the best option if access becomes difficult later.

Quick checklist before selection

  • • What is the pit depth and where will the test link sit?
  • • Will an electrician need easy hand access for future checking?
  • • Are multiple conductors or joints entering the chamber?
  • • Is the location inside a compound, near paving, or near vehicle movement?

Common sizing mistakes

  • • Selecting only by width and ignoring maintenance depth
  • • Forgetting space needed around the test link hardware
  • • Using a compact chamber where repeated service access is expected
  • • Not checking top cover size and final finished level
